Master of Music (MM) in Choral Conducting
At The University of Alabama School of Music, MM in Choral Conducting students will receive a holistic education in conducting performance and scholarship that encourages skill development to be competitive in future endeavors. Students engage with the choral community within and outside of the university, and build confidence as conductors, educators, musicians, and scholars.
- Vita/Resume
- Include education, background, experience, honors and awards, performances, publications, names of former teachers, and any other important information.
- Conducting Recordings
- (1) A performance of an ensemble you conduct (ten to fifteen minutes in length, may be spliced from multiple performances, front-facing camera view)
- (2) A rehearsal of an ensemble you conduct (twenty minutes in length, unedited except for trimming start/finish, front-facing camera view)
- Applicants should submit a hyperlink to media sharing websites (ex: YouTube, Vimeo) for each recording. Please take care to assure that audio quality from the video is sufficiently high.
- Submit MM pre-screening materials here.
Applicants will be notified of pre-screening results by early January. Applicants who are successful in this first round will be invited to campus for a full audition in the spring. Those invited to campus will conduct a portion of a choral rehearsal, interview with members of the choral faculty, meet current UA choral students, and demonstrate piano and vocal skills. Additional information will be provided upon invitation to campus.
Doctor of Musical Arts (DMA) in Choral Conducting
At the University of Alabama School of Music, DMA in Choral Conducting students will receive a holistic education in conducting performance and scholarship that encourages skill development to be competitive in future endeavors. Students engage with the choral community within and outside of the university, and build confidence as conductors, educators, musicians, and scholars.
DMA in Choral Conducting students will develop skills in scholarship and practical conducting to better understand and be able to engage with the diverse world of choral music. Graduates of the program may choose to focus on an academic career, professional career, or a combination of the two. Students in the DMA program work towards excellence in conducting and teaching, becoming an impactful presenter, clinician, and adjudicator, and developing skills in administration in choral education.

Graduate Assistantships
Everyone who completes the application process (including interview and/or audition, if requested) is automatically considered for scholarships and assistantships. No additional application is necessary. Multiple choral graduate assistantships are available each year.
Test Scores
Please note that no GRE scores or any other standardized test results are required for admission into the UA School of Music.
