Druid City Chorus

What is the Druid City Chorus?

The Druid City Chorus (DCC) is a community ensemble consisting of Tuscaloosa Community members (ages 18+), University of Alabama (UA) faculty/staff, and students from UA, Stillman College, and Shelton State. The DCC performs solo choral performances and collaborates with choral and symphonic ensembles from across the state and beyond. The Druid City Chorus is committed to engaging with a wide variety of choral repertoire styles, composers, and historical eras representative of the diverse world in which our community exists.

Participation in DCC requires a voicing appointment before registering. Sign-up for your voicing appointment using the link below. Once you have attended your voicing, use one of the links below to register (for-credit OR non-credit) for the ensemble. All participants must complete a registration form prior to attending.

Rehearsal Schedule

While UA is in session, the DCC holds weekly Monday evening rehearsals from 6:30-8:00pm from mid-August through April, in room 1000 of the University of Alabama Music Building (810 2nd Avenue). Additional rehearsals may be scheduled depending on each season’s concert schedule. Dress rehearsals are typically held at the venue where each concert will be performed. DCC follows the UA calendar re observed holidays and breaks (ex. Labor Day closure, Winter Break, etc.). UA mandates regarding unexpected closures (ex. severe weather) will also be observed.

Voicings

All participants in the DCC will participate in an individual voicing. Voicings will take no longer than 15 minutes.

Voicings for the 2024-25 season will be held in two waves: Friday-Sunday, May 17-19, 2024 and Sunday-Tuesday August 4-6, 2024.

UA, Stillman, and Shelton State students only may complete their voicings on Sunday-Monday, August 18-19.

All voicings will be held at the University of Alabama School of Music.

Current members must do a re-voicing every two years. Re-voicings are necessary to keep up with the pace of the ensemble’s standards as a collaborator across the state of Alabama and beyond!

No preparation is needed for your voicing. However, please come warmed up and ready to sing! Voicings for the 2024-2025 season will consist of:

  1. Vocalization demonstrating your vocal range and tessitura
  2. Aural skills assessment
  3. Sight-reading an exercise or two of moderate difficulty
  4. A short musicianship quiz that demonstrates your understanding of reading choral music.

Sign up for a voicing here.
