Graduate Choral Auditions

Masters of Music (MM) in Choral Conducting

All potential graduate students in choral conducting must apply to the UA Graduate School  and submit a pre-screening application by December 1.

All materials must be submitted by this date for pre-screening materials to be reviewed.

Pre-screening Supplemental Materials

  • Vita/Resume
    • Include education, background, experience, honors and awards, performances, publications, names of former teachers, and any other important information.
  • Conducting Recordings
    • Two video recordings are required and consist of: (1) a performance of a group you conduct (at least ten minutes in length) and (2) a rehearsal (at least twenty minutes in length). Applicants should submit a hyperlink to media sharing websites (ex: YouTube, Vimeo) for each recording. Please take care to assure that audio quality from the video is sufficiently high.

Graduate Assistantships

Everyone who completes the application process (including interview and/or audition, if required) is automatically considered for scholarships and assistantships, and no additional application is necessary. Multiple choral graduate assistantships are available.

 

Test Scores

Please note that no GRE scores or any other standardized test results are required for admission into the UA School of Music.

 

On-Campus Auditions

Applicants will be notified of pre-screening results in early January. Applicants who are successful in this first round will be invited to campus for a full audition in the spring. Those invited to campus will conduct a portion of a choral rehearsal, interview with members of the choral faculty, meet current UA choral students, and demonstrate piano and vocal skills. Additional information will be provided upon invitation to campus.

Doctorate of Musical Arts (DMA) in Choral Conducting

All materials must be submitted by this date for pre-screening materials to be reviewed.

  • Vita/Resume
    • Include education, background, experience, honors and awards, performances, publications, names of former teachers, and any other important information.
  • Performance-Scholar Portfolio
    • To include any of the following that may apply: Concert Programs, Conference Session Outlines, Scholarly Writing Samples, etc.
    • Please upload this portfolio as a single document (PDF preferred).
  • Conducting Recordings
    • Two video recordings are required and consist of: (1) a performance of a group you conduct (at least ten minutes in length) and (2) a rehearsal (at least twenty minutes in length).
